Meet the Torrance Team Behind Laurel Attic Insulation Torrance

Most insulation companies send whoever answers the phone. We send people whose names you’ll know before they pull into your driveway. Our Torrance crew is small on purpose: five people who’ve spent years in South Bay attics, know exactly how coastal air affects insulation, and treat a 1,200-square-foot bungalow with the same care as a 4,000-square-foot Hillside property. We’re backed by the Relay Home Co. network, but the people on your ladder are local. They live here, they work here, and they’ll be the ones answering when you call.

Our People

Marcus D. – Lead Technician

Marcus has been installing insulation in the South Bay since 2011, and he’s got the forearms to prove it. He’s our fiberglass and blown-in cellulose specialist, holding certification through Owens Corning’s installer training program, and he’s personally handled over 900 attic jobs in Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Palos Verdes. What sets Marcus apart is his diagnostic instinct: he can walk into a home, feel the temperature difference between the living room and hallway, and tell you which joist bays are under-insulated before he even opens the attic hatch. When he’s not working, he’s restoring a 1968 Chevy C10 in his garage in North Torrance. He’ll gladly talk your ear off about it if you ask, but he’ll keep working while he does.

Sophia R. – Senior Installer, Spray Foam Lead

Sophia joined Laurel Attic Insulation in 2018 after five years in commercial insulation, and she’s the person we trust with our most demanding spray foam projects. She’s Icynene and Demilec certified, and she’s the reason our Torrance team has a reputation for clean, precise foam applications. Spray foam is unforgiving: you mix it wrong, you apply it too thick, you misjudge the temperature, and you’ve got a mess that costs thousands to fix. Sophia doesn’t have those days. She’s also our air-sealing lead, which means she’s the one who catches the gaps around recessed lights and bathroom fans that most crews walk right past. Outside of work, she’s a serious cyclist. If you see someone on a bike with insulation dust on her shoes heading up Hawthorne Boulevard, it’s probably her.

Danny K. – Service Coordinator

Danny is the voice on the phone, the person texting you your live arrival time, and the one who makes sure your before-and-after photos land in your inbox before the crew has even packed up the truck. He’s been with Relay Home Co. since 2016 and moved over to the Laurel Attic Insulation Torrance location in 2021. Danny knows the scheduling challenges of South Bay traffic better than anyone: he’s the reason we give you a trackable arrival window instead of a vague “sometime between 8 and 2.” He also speaks fluent Spanish, which matters in a city where a lot of homeowners prefer to talk through a project in their first language. He’s a huge Dodgers fan, and if you call during a day game, don’t be surprised if you hear the radio faintly in the background. He’ll still give you his full attention.

Ben T. – Apprentice Installer

Ben is the newest member of the crew, hired in 2024 after completing his training through a local trade program at El Camino College. He’s working toward his full installer certification under Marcus and Sophia, and he’s already earned the nickname “Penguin” from the rest of the team because he can maneuver through the tightest attic kneewalls without getting stuck. Every job where Ben is on the crew, he handles the grunt work: hauling bales up the ladder, running the vacuum during removals, prepping the staging area. He does it with the kind of energy that makes the rest of us feel old. On weekends, he’s a volunteer basketball coach for a youth league in Torrance. He wants to be a lead technician by 2028, and at the rate he’s going, he’ll get there.

One Standard, Every Job

Here’s the thing about a crew like ours: it only works if everyone follows the same playbook. That’s the Relay Standard, and it’s not optional. Every job gets a written price before anything starts, whether it’s a simple attic top-up with CertainTeed fiberglass or a full insulation removal and reinstall with Rockwool. Every job gets a live arrival time you can track from your phone, not a four-hour window. Every job gets before-and-after photos delivered digitally. Every job gets a 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. And if something’s not right, we come back. Free. No charge, no argument, no fine print. Marcus enforces it on the install side. Danny enforces it on the scheduling side. Chase Whitaker, our owner, enforces it with every invoice he signs. It’s the same standard whether you’re getting a $900 patch job or a $6,000 full spray foam conversion. That’s not a marketing line. That’s how we keep our name in Torrance.
